A 14-year-old Lamar, Colorado, boy allegedly led police on a high speed chase earlier this month before crashing into two parked cars. His 17-year-old passenger died in the car accident.
According to the Colorado State Patrol incident report, the chase began when a Granada police officer spotted a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro driving recklessly on U.S. Highway 50 in Granada, Colorado. When the officer tried to pull the vehicle over shortly after 9:30 p.m., the 14-year-old driver of the Camaro fled.
The Colorado State Patrol report says as the chase progressed, the driver of the Camaro was traveling east on U.S. Highway 50 at speeds of more than 100 mph. The officer pursuing the vehicle lost sight of the Camaro as it entered Holly, Colorado. The boy allegedly lost control of the vehicle and slammed into two cars parked on the side of the road.
When they reached the site of the car crash, officers discovered a 14-year-old boy was driving the Camaro. Officers later found the vehicle had been stolen in Lamar.
A 17-year-old boy from Lamar was riding in the passenger seat of the Camaro. Medical experts pronounced him dead at the site of the wreck. The boy was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
The 14-year-old was also wearing his seatbelt when the accident occurred. Emergency workers transported him to Prowers Medical Center, where he was treated for minor injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the incident, and the Granada Police Department says charges are pending against the boy.
